Grade-Based Classrooms
Milldam organizes classrooms by age, meaning that all children in a class are the same age and grade. This approach allows teachers to tailor lessons, activities, and expectations to students' developmental needs while providing the consistency and community that come from learning together in the same classroom throughout the year.
Children also benefit from opportunities to connect and learn alongside peers of different ages. To foster these connections, Milldam offers a variety of optional programs that bring together students from different classrooms and grade levels, allowing them to learn, play, and build relationships across the school community.
2/3 Class
Children who turn 2 before September 1 are eligible for our 2/3 classes. We offer a 2-day-a-week class that runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and a 3-day-a-week class that runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Class runs from 9:00 to 11:30am (with drop-off starting at 8:50am).
Both 2/3 classes have up to 9 children per classroom and are taught by a lead teacher and a professional assistant, with a parent in the classroom to support the staff.
3/4 Class
Children who turn 3 before September 1 are eligible for our 3/4 classes. All 3/4 classes run 3 days a week, either on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays or Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Class runs from 9:00 to 11:40am (with drop-off starting at 8:50am).
Both 3/4 classes have 11 children per classroom and are taught by a lead teacher and a professional assistant, with a parent in the classroom to support the staff.
4/5 Class
Children who turn 4 before September 1 are eligible for our 4/5 classes. We offer two classes that both run Monday-Thursday, with the option of attending Friday for an additional fee. Class runs from 9:00 to 11:50am (with drop-off starting at 8:50am).
One 4/5 classroom supports 11 children and is taught by a lead teacher and a professional assistant. The second 4/5 classroom can support up to 15 children and is taught by two lead teachers. Both classrooms have a parent in the classroom to support the staff.
Fifth Day Program
This program is called “Fifth Day” because it is the optional curriculum offered to Milldam’s 4/5 students on Fridays from 8:50-11:50am, which is the day that the regular 4/5 classes do not meet. Fifth Day utilizes a dynamic "Cultures Around the World" curriculum. From Canada to Mexico and Panama, off to Denmark and Italy, then Egypt and Australia, with so many stops in between, students learn about language, music, and culture from each country stamped in their passports. The program is exciting and educational, and it’s a fantastic way to prepare your child for the five day schedule that lies ahead in Kindergarten.
